Accepting these terms
By using islandpreservationgroup.com, submitting a form, or using one of our tools, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the site.
These terms govern your use of the website. Work we actually perform on your property is governed by the written quote and service agreement you sign — if anything in that agreement conflicts with this page, the signed agreement wins.
Who we are
This site is operated by Island Preservation Group, a property monitoring company serving Southern Vancouver Island, BC, Canada. You can reach us at info@islandpreservationgroup.com.
Requests, quotes, and the service
Asking about monitoring through this site is a request, not a booking. We will contact you to confirm whether the property sits inside a route we run and to arrange a first visit. Submitting a form does not create a contract between us, and does not obligate either of us to proceed.
Any price we discuss before seeing the property is an estimate. Final pricing depends on access, the visit cadence and scope you choose, and where the property sits relative to a route we already run. A quote becomes binding only when it is in writing and accepted by both of us.
Monitoring is provided under a separate service agreement covering visit cadence, access, key custody, cancellation, and liability. Those terms govern the service itself; these terms govern your use of this website.
We may decline work, including where a property is unsafe to access, where it falls outside a route we can serve properly, or where a monitoring plan is not in your interest. Where you do not need us, we will tell you so.
What monitoring is and is not
A monitoring visit is a scheduled visual check by a careful person, recorded with photographs and, where a measurement is meaningful, a reading. That is the whole of it, and it is worth being exact about the limits.
It is not:
- a home inspection. We are not licensed home inspectors and our reports must not be used in place of an inspection for a sale, a mortgage, or an insurance placement
- a security or guarding service. We do not patrol, we do not respond to alarms, and we do not clear a property we find open
- a diagnosis. We report what was observed; identifying a cause is work for a qualified trade or engineer
- a valuation, or any opinion on what a property is worth
- a repair, cleaning, or maintenance service of any kind
Any plan recommendation this site produces is a starting suggestion from the few answers you gave us, not advice about your insurance obligations. What your policy requires while a property is unoccupied is a question for your own broker, about your own policy.
Where a visit surfaces work, we may refer you to a trade and may receive a referral commission on what you pay them. We disclose that at the point of referral. You are free to engage anyone you choose, and the trade contracts with you directly, not with us.
Website content and guides
Our Learning Centre articles and other educational content are general information about property maintenance on the coast. They are not professional advice for your specific property, and following them does not guarantee any particular result. Conditions vary — when in doubt, have someone qualified look at it.
We work to keep content accurate and current, but we do not warrant that everything on this site is complete, current, or error-free.
Memberships and monitoring plans
Membership and property-monitoring plans described on this site are summaries. The services included, visit frequency, pricing, term, renewal, and cancellation rights are set out in the plan agreement you receive before enrolling. Plan features and pricing may change; changes do not apply to a term you have already paid for.
Referral and partner program
If you participate in our referral or partner program, referral credit is attributed through the unique link or code issued to you. Credit is earned only on work that is completed and paid for, and we reserve the right to withhold credit for referrals that are self-dealing, duplicated, obtained through spam or misrepresentation, or that a customer disputes. We may change or end the program, though we will honour credit already earned.
Communications
When you submit a request, you agree we may contact you about it by email or phone. Marketing email is sent only with your consent, always identifies us, and always carries a working unsubscribe link. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle your information and how to opt out.
Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Submit false, misleading, or someone else’s information through our forms
- Request assessments for properties you have no connection to or authority over
- Scrape, harvest, or bulk-download this site’s content, or attempt to access parts of our systems you are not authorised to use
- Interfere with the site’s operation, security, or availability
- Use the site for anything unlawful
We may suspend access where we reasonably believe these terms are being abused.
Intellectual property
The content on this site — text, photography, guides, design, and the Island Preservation Group name and marks — belongs to us or our licensors and is protected by copyright and trademark law. You may view, share, and print it for your own non-commercial use. Republishing, reselling, or using it to build a competing service is not permitted without our written consent.
Project photographs show our own work. Anything you send us — a message, a photo of your property, feedback — you keep, but you give us permission to use it for the purpose you sent it for.
Third-party links and services
This site may link to other websites and relies on third-party infrastructure. We do not control those sites or services and are not responsible for their content, availability, or privacy practices.
Disclaimers
The website and its tools are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free.
This section is about the website. It does not limit any warranty we give in a signed service agreement for work performed on your property, and it does not affect statutory rights you have as a consumer under British Columbia law that cannot be waived.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Island Preservation Group is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data, arising from your use of this website or reliance on its estimating tools or educational content.
Where liability cannot be excluded, our total liability arising from your use of this website is limited to CAD $100.
Nothing here excludes liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada, and the courts of British Columbia have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as our services change. The current version always appears on this page with its “last updated” date. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
